Forestry and Environmental Science Society
Forestry and Environmental Science Society is the students’ society affiliated to Department of Forestry and Environmental Science. Currently it’s one of the leading students’ societies in the university.
The Society organizes both intra-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as field trips, workshops, lectures, projects and social service activities. The main objective of the Society is to enhance different skills of members while nourishing them with latest knowledge.
The society continues its’ endless journey by broadening the horizons.

Clean up project in Sri Pada (Adam’s peak)
The Forestry and Environmental Society of university of Sri Jayewardenepura organizes an annual cleanup project in Sri Pada around the month of June. Collection of non-biodegradable waste such as polythene, bottles, plastic wrappings are carried down.
2. Back to Nature
Back to nature is an event organized with the concept of කමු, යමු, ඉමු සුරකිමු to raise awareness of the importance of nature. This consisted of guest lectures by many environmentalists including lectures from our university.
3. Haritha Wasanthaya
Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival ‘Haritha Wasanthaya 2019’ annually organized by the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science of Faculty of Applied Sciences was held on 04th April 2019 at the Department premises. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge; Vice Chancellor of the University; Prof. Laleen Karunanayake; Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Prof. Sudantha Liyanage; Dean of the Faculty of Technology participated in the festival to share the New Year happiness with the students.
Also, academic members of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences and other Departments of the Faculty of Applied Sciences participated in the festival.
4. Back to Forestry
Back to Forestry is the annual social gathering happening in January. It is a glamorous event where the academics and students of the department gather.
5. Photography competitions and workshop
Throughout the year photography competitions, photography workshops were organized by the society both online and physical with the participation of students of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science.
